How PokeFocus Gets Pokémon Card Prices

Where PokeFocus Pokémon card and sealed prices come from: daily TCGplayer market prices, verified raw, PSA 9, and PSA 10 eBay sales, and how deals work.

For collectors and researchers who want to know where a PokeFocus price comes from before citing it.

Key facts

Market prices are TCGplayer market prices, refreshed daily and shown with their date.

PSA 9 and PSA 10 prices are medians of eBay sales verified as the exact card and grade.

PokeFocus does not sell, buy, or bid; it reports observed prices, not advice.

PokeFocus provides inspection tools and market context. Marketplace purchases, shipping, returns, seller accuracy, card condition, and fulfillment remain your responsibility.

1. Market price: TCGplayer, refreshed daily

The market price on a card or sealed product page is the TCGplayer market price, captured daily. Card prices are for Near Mint copies. Each page states the price with the date it was last refreshed, so a quoted price can always be dated.

  • Raw price history on a card page is the daily TCGplayer market price.
  • Sealed pages add the number of active TCGplayer listings and the lowest listing, before shipping, from the same daily capture.
  • Price per pack is the sealed market price divided by the product’s pack count.

2. Sold prices: verified eBay sales by grade

PSA 9 and PSA 10 prices come from completed eBay sales that PokeFocus verified as the exact card and grade. The card page lists recent verified sales newest first, with their median for the selected window.

  • Card pages show 7- and 30-day sold medians and how many sales they include.
  • Individual sales are kept for 90 days.
  • A median from a few sales moves more than one from many; the sale count is shown beside it.

3. Listings, deals, and centering

Active eBay listings are compared with a market reference: the TCGplayer price for the seller’s declared condition, or the 30-day eBay sold median of at least three sales for PSA 9 and PSA 10. A deal is a Buy It Now listing for the exact card and printing whose price plus known shipping is at least 7% and $0.50 under that reference, or a raw card at or under a market that fell at least 10% over 14 days.

  • Auctions never carry a deal label.
  • Centering is measured from the listing’s front photo as the smaller border’s share of each opposite pair. It is a photo measurement, not a grade.
  • Listings change quickly; open the listing on eBay to confirm price, shipping, and status.

4. Citing a PokeFocus price

Prices change daily, so cite the page URL and the date stated beside the price.

  • Links to TCGplayer are affiliate links; PokeFocus may earn a commission at no extra cost to the buyer. Links to eBay are not.
  • No one pays PokeFocus for inclusion or ranking.
  • Nothing PokeFocus shows is a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold.

Common questions

How often do PokeFocus prices update?

TCGplayer market prices are captured daily, and each page shows the date of its latest capture. Verified eBay sales are added as they are confirmed, and each active listing shows when PokeFocus last checked it.

Is the market price what a card sells for?

Not exactly. The market price is TCGplayer’s market value for a Near Mint copy. Graded copies sell at their own prices, which PokeFocus reports as medians of verified eBay sales for PSA 9 and PSA 10.

Does PokeFocus sell cards?

No. PokeFocus does not sell, buy, or bid. It links to eBay and TCGplayer; the TCGplayer links are affiliate links.

Citing a price

  • Quote a market price with the date the page gives for it.
  • Say whether a price is raw, PSA 9, or PSA 10.
  • Check the sale count before relying on a graded median.
  • Confirm a listing’s price and shipping on eBay before buying.
